UK has ranked poorly in a global broadband quality survey
A survey sponsored by networking firm Cisco shows that Britain’s broadband infrastructure is not adequate for future web applications. Japan came out top of the planet’s broadband league with speeds that are three to four times those available in the UK. For more information see the reports from the BBC and IT Pro.
But lower Internet access speeds doesn’t necessarily equate to lower business competitiveness. A report for the government on upgrading Britain’s broadband network concluded that our infrastructure is not so bad that it warrants government intervention. It’s recommendation is that the private sector should pay for this upgrade, meaning that we will probably have to wait longer for better broadband. Read more here.
